Session Details
With farmers and agri-cooperatives around the world confronted by unprecedented pressures from climate change, soaring energy prices, labour shortages and the specter of scarcity (availability and affordability) in farm inputs, this panel will examine how this increased volatility and inflated expenses affect farm profitability and competitiveness.

His career started with the Governor of California position, eventually becoming the Deputy Secretary of International Trade and Investment for California. He has received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Stanford University and the University of Glasgow. |

Christiane Lambert Christiane Lambert is a French farmer and agricultural trade unionist who has headed the Fédération Nationale des Syndicats d’Exploitants Agricoles (FNSEA) from 2017 until 2023. Joseph Glauber Senior Research Fellow, International Food Policy Research Institute Joe Glauber is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, DC where his areas of interest are price volatility, global grain reserves, crop insurance and trade. Prior to joining IFPRI, Glauber spent over 30 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture including as Chief Economist from 2008 to 2014. As Chief Economist, he was responsible for the Department’s agricultural forecasts and projections, oversaw climate, energy and regulatory issues, and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. |

Shawn Harding Shawn Harding of Beaufort County was elected president of North Carolina Farm Bureau in 2019. Previously, he served the Farm Bureau in several roles, including president of Beaufort County, member of the state board of directors, and state public policy director. He farmed tobacco with his brother into the late 1990s until transitioning to fruit and vegetables. Shawn is the owner and operator of Southside Farms in Chocowinity, NC which produces corn, soybeans, and wheat. |

Massimiliano Giansanti Born in Rome, Massimiliano is an agricultural entrepreneur that actively supports progress and innovation in farming, and promotes growth and innovation in the agricultural field. He is the President of Agricola Giansanti and CEO of the Agricultural Group Di Muzio, present in the provinces of Rome, Viterbo and Parma. The companies, specialized in the production of cereals, kiwis, milk and animal products, are active both in the agro-industrial and agro-energetic fields, through the production of photovoltaic electric energy. |

Session Details
This panel will explore current sustainability initiatives and policies across North America and the EU, looking at how they reconcile environment, social and economic sustainability. Examples include the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy and potential prohibitions on the use of inputs including glyphosate, GMOs, and pesticides.

Pierre Petelle Pierre Petelle is the president and CEO of CropLife Canada, the trade association that represents the Canadian manufacturers, developers and distributors of pest control products and plants with novel traits. Elise Golan Dr. Golan is the Director for Sustainable Development at the USDA. Prior to taking this position, she was the Associate Director of the Food Economics Division at the Economic Research Service. She has done consulting work for the World Bank, the International Labor Organization, and the California Department of Finance. She served as a senior staff economist on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 1998-99, and received her Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of California at Berkeley. |

Lone Andersen Chair of Working Party of Organics Lone Andersen is Chairman of the Family Farmers in Denmark, and she is Vice President of the Danish Agriculture & Food Council. Ms. Andersen is chair of Copa-Cogeca Working Party on Organic Farming, and she is member of the Copa-Cogeca Presedium. Together she farms with her husband – an organic dairy farm in the western part of Denmark with 115 black and white cows producing 12.000 kg of milk per year. They run 126 hectares as well, where they grow cereals for feeding the cows. |

Sandra Piña Sandra has worked in her current role at Corteva Agriscience since May 2020. Previous to that, she held the position of Regulatory Policy Leader at Corteva. Sandra is also the Vice-president of Strategic Inputs, Innovation and Technology at the National Council of Agriculture in Mexico (CNA). |

Karris Gutter Prior to joining Corteva, Gutter served as USDA’s Deputy Undersecretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services and as USDA’s Military Veterans Agricultural Liaison. Karis also served a stint as Deputy Administrator at USDA’s Farm Service Agency. A native of Terry, Mississippi, Karis began his career in public service in the United States Marine Corp Reserves and worked in local government for the Hinds County Board of Supervisors in Mississippi. Karis also spent several years on Capitol Hill as Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director to Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) and as a Professional Staff Member to the House Committee on Homeland Security. |

Keith Currie President, CFA An 8th generation farmer, Keith’s operation focuses on grains and oilseed, forages, as well as sweet corn and gladiolus flower production. He has represented many agriculture boards and livestock/cropping organizations. He is the Past President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) and became CFA President in 2023, Keith served on the CFA board for several years, and was elected as the organization’s 1st Vice-President in 2019. |

Michael Graydon A seasoned business executive, Michael has nearly 20 years of visionary CEO leadership across multiple industries, driving proactive and collaborative stakeholder engagement and consistent corporate results. Since joining FHCP (then FCPC) in 2016, his leadership has dramatically repositioned the organization into a driving force on industry issues as diverse as Canada’s Healthy Eating Strategy, free trade and tariff issues, environmental sustainability, product labelling and the changing dynamics of the supplier/retailer relationship. |

Most recently, Sarah served as Vice President of External Affairs for renewable energy start-up, Nacelle Solutions / Avolta. Sarah previously was Executive Director of Industry Relations at American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) based in Washington, DC. Prior to her career at AFBF, Sarah worked in management consulting advising Fortune 100 financial services companies. She started her career managing the sales and marketing for a Dutch produce company’s U.S. operation. |

Ted Bilyea Ted Bilyea is a Distinguished Fellow at the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) and a consultant and corporate director specializing in agri-food strategy with private and public clients. In 2005 he retired as Executive Vice-President of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., having spent 35 years with the company and its predecessors. During that time he pioneered the development of key export markets, including chilled pork exports to Asia and food-grade soybeans to Japan. He was inducted into the Canadian Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2018. |

Palle Borgström Palle’s interest for farming started early as well as his engagement in agricultural cooperatives and interest organisations. Among many other missions, Palle has been a member of the board of Arla Foods (2008-2017) and deeply engaged in issues regarding dairy market development and payment for farmers. He was elected to the board of Federation of Swedish farmers, LRF in 2010 and was elected as president in 2017. |

Zippy Duvall Zippy Duvall has served as president of the American Farm Bureau Federation since 2016. He is a third-generation farmer from Georgia. He owns a beef cow herd, raises broiler chickens and grows his own hay, all while continuing to restore the land he inherited. Through his leadership as AFBF president, Duvall has helped to shape a new farm bill, defeat misguided regulations, shepherd new trade agreements and ensure farmers and ranchers are supported through natural disasters and the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. |
